Europe Hook Peninsula Ireland Irelands ancient East Road Trip South East Ireland Wexford Where!

A Weekend Getaway to Irelands ancient East, in search of motivation!

May 30, 2019

Bannow church: Thank you God for such a wonderful day!

After two weeks of going through a lack of motivation phase and waiting for things to change on its own, I finally decided to take charge of it and get my motivation back! I made an impromptu plan of visiting wexford without even considering weather conditions. I needed to go somewhere!!! South East being the only part unexplored, Wexford was an easy choice. I booked a farm stay in Bannow Bay on Airbnb which by the looks of it was exactly what I needed for the weekend.

Hook Peninsula to the South East is indeed a gem of a place! Calming, soothing and relaxing are the right words to describe the vibe of it. Driving through windy road under tree canopy, hidden beaches, lighthouses, farms, dilapidated fortress, crumbling Abbeys and an expansive view of the sunset by the beach is Hook Peninsula for you! Weather was on my side and I could feel the motivation subtly kicking in already!

The highlight of my trip was the Farm stay which is an experience you must have if in Wexford. Wake up to the sound of cattle grazing, rooster screaming, tractor hovering to keep the cattle on one side of the field, dogs lazying around, kids riding bikes on their private beach, coffee with freshly squeezed milk from the farm and much more! All right things to get your day started on a bright note.

Here’s How I got my motivation back!

A nice lone walk at the Rosslare Harbor followed by brunch/lunch

Rosslare harbor

Rosslare Harbor is around an hour and a half away from Dublin and is perfect for a peaceful walk by yourself. The lone walk helped me get my thoughts together which were only wearing me down all this while. Normally meditating helps or doing what you love doing is the best way to deal with it. Since travel is my form of meditation, I had to take seek its help and it sure did! After a refreshing walk in the balmy weather, I had delicious food to look forward to. With tons of options like Ice cream, sea food and Guinness around me I could feel the excitement again!

By staying away from the chaos in Bannow Bay

The beautiful drive

I continued my drive to the Farm Stay which was located in Bannow Bay, further down south in Wexford. It was a perfect kind of tranquility I needed. With an uninterrupted view of Bannow Island, Bannow church on the side and the Peninsula in the backdrop, I doubt I could’ve found a better place than this.

The farm is owned by a beautiful family of three kids, their parents and grandfather. Seeing the kids get up as early as their father to help him in the farm was inspiring! A calming sunset by their private beach, the smell of the hay from the farm and the lively ambience around me all acted as mood boosters.

Catch a lovely sunset by Bannow Church, Bannow Island

Gazing is the best thing ever :p

Bannow church and the Island were literally just 5 minutes away from the farm and served as a great view from the house with ocean in the background. I am a sunset lover and can stare at the site of it for hours. With the whole area to myself it was like a dream come true. I sat for hours gazing at the sky, watch sun slowly disappear behind the clouds. It was one of the most surreal sunsets ever which made me look forward to the next day!

Getting stunned by the gorgeous views of the Hook Peninsula by the lighthouse!

Hook Light house

Driving in Ireland is an adventure in itself. The scary, narrow, zigzag roads, the wild waves of the ocean gushing on the cliffs, sheep walking on the side and sometimes on the roads, the unpredictable rain and snow! It keeps you pretty occupied throughout the drive. Random stops and exploring the hideouts while driving was like “Dream it, wish it, do it” moment for me.

The drive to the Hook Lighthouse through Hook Peninsula was breathtaking. An exceptional view, lovely weather, favorite gadgets revived my enthusiasm in photography and I just couldn’t stop.

Declutter by relaxing or kayaking in Baginben Beach

A sip or two at Baginbun Beach

Now if I could do this every weekend, I seriously would! The only reason I say “could” is because weather in Ireland is not always so quiet by the beach. It was a perfect spot to declutter my mind and realise how peaceful clutter busting is. Looking at each layer of distraction, questioning the things, letting it go, and realising what’s underneath. Now I have a deeper connection and memories with Baginbun Beach than my bed!

Read a good book in one of the hidden bays

It’s my spot!

Lets say I tried reading a book in Dollar Bay and got majorly distracted by the panorama around me. I found this spot on the beach and wished I could always stay quietly like this, in the corner of the nature. Nature only gives and it for sure gave me my motivation back by just letting me be in its presence.

Learned new things in the Sandycove farm

Chilling with David John!

Isn’t it always amazing to learn or experience something new? I was so glad to be a part of this wonderful, hard working and joyous family for two days! They showed me how they made feed for the cattle, how they operated the farm, the milking process and much more.

The oldest Kid – David John, enjoyed flying drone with me so we decided to fly it by the beach. On our way we crossed an electric fence which wasn’t working as expected. The fence was meant to keep the bull away from the house and the farm. He called his father from my phone to come fix it. I suggested going to the beach in the time which he refused in order to guard the area until his father showed up. I was amazed and decided to wait with him. Seeing the kids act responsible at such young age was mind – altering.

Flying my drone on a private beach!

It was a good day to fly the drone!

It made for a productive and invigorating weekend in Irelands Ancient East, to have met new people, explored a new place, noticed the nuances of a different part of Ireland which always amazes me, learnt new things, gained my motivation back and celebrated by flying my drone on the calmest, sunniest and beautiful day by the beach with the kids at the farm. I was glad to give back by teaching them to fly a drone! Wexford farm stay experience is something I would recommend everyone in Ireland to go for, it is the most natural way to detox 🙂

I think it is the best to just do what you love doing the most when you are lacking motivation in life. It could be dancing, painting, reading a book, going out with friends or traveling. There’s no point in being hard on yourself by overthinking, it’s only exhausting. The main thing is to relax and let your talent do the work.
