Craving for authentic Latin American delights to stir your otherwise bland taste palate? One day on my way back in uber, I came across a place called Arepa. That was the first time I tried Venezuelan Food and I was obsessed with it. I wanted to try more places that served Venezuelan food. My friend Chetan found Mojito which not only serves Venezuelan but is one of the best restaurants serving Latin American Food in Seattle. Since Chetan and I are on a strict diet of having one meal a day, we were fasting all day and were only waiting to get off work and rush to this place. We ubered after work and it took us around 20 minutes from downtown to get here.
Appetizers and Drinks
A bright yellow colored quaint little place located in a residential area near Green Lake looked very welcoming and homely. We made ourselves comfortable and browsed through the menu although we had already decided on what to order from their menu online. I would suggest starting with Caipirinha drink which is Brazil’s national cocktail made from cachaca sugar and lime. Its absolutely refreshing and perfect to decompress after a busy work day. Their Mojito platter, Arepa and Beef Empanadas go well with the drink.
Mojito platter comprises of Yuca Fritas, Tostones and Maduros. Yuca Fritas is a popular Columbian dish made from Cassava. Tostones are fried plantains whereas Maduros are sweet plantains that are deep fried and served with two home-made dips. Ask for the habanero dip if you can handle the spice. I loved Tostones served with cheese and their dips the most!
Main Course
After a delectable appetizer we were ready for our main course. I am a Pescaterian and I always love trying sea-food at different places. Pescado Frito immediately caught my attention. It is a white fish fried fillet served with rice, beans and maduros. The fish is fried to perfection and goes well with their Ensalada de la casa which is avocado, celery, onions and tomato salad topped with a delicious yellow sauce.
Chetan got himself a Pabellon which is Venezuelan’s national dish comprising of shredded beef, red peppers, onions, and spices, slowly cooked and served with black beans, white rice and maduros.
Dessert
For dessert do try the Tres Leches garnished with strawberry sauce. It was a deliciously satisfying meal and the fasting was totally worth it!
Arepa Venezuelan Kitchen located near university of Washington is another recommendation for Venezuelan food. Paparepas is another food truck serving scrumptious Venezuelan arepa’s. These places will definitely satisfy your taste buds!
