Austin Texas USA Where!

Keeping it Wierd in Austin <3

September 12, 2018

Austin was our favourite weekend getaway back in Texas. It is a small city, has a younger crowd and much better places for sightseeing, eating, drinking etc. I remember, there were times when we would drive 3hrs straight from Dallas just because we wanted some coffee from Cafe Mozart. The cafe has a beautiful view of Lake Austin and of course great coffee.

Our crazy last-minute getaways!

  1. Indian Food at New India Cuisine: Their soul kadi, millionaires curry (Pomfret), Malvani coconut chicken curry are my favourites.

  1. South by south-west: This is the most famous festival in Austin which takes place around mid-march. Its a music festival along with interactive media, film and conferences where people from around the world participate. We have visited this festival couple of times for Career festivals where many companies would come for recruitment.
  2. Bachelorette party on 6th street: Yea, We celebrated one of our friends’ bachelorette party in Austin. It was perfect for bar hopping and having a weird, crazy experience.
  3. Lunch in Cafe Oasis: This Is definitely one of my most favourite Mexican restaurants. Cafe Oasis on Lake Travis is perfect for lunch and margaritas with a view.

  1. Hot Dogs at Bangerzz: This restaurant on Rainey street is a must try. Their hot dogs and collection of beer is something every austinite and dallasite love 😀
  2. Drinks at Speakeasy bar in Firehouse hostel: This is one of the best hostels in the heart of Austin downtown. The hostel has a secret door to a bar behind the bookshelf. This is one of our favourite places to get drinks and meet new people from all around the world.
  3. After party food at Halal Guy’s food truck: This was our favourite place to eat after a night of drinking and dancing on the 6th street. This place right next to 6th street is at a walkable distance and a cash-only food truck! But the yummy falafel platter and chicken over rice is a pure heaven ❤

I remember one weekend that I and my roommate decided to take a break and go to Austin and just relax after our hectic work week. We booked a camper in East Austinon Airbnb called #Motelcamper. If you are interested in glamping away from the city, I would recommend booking this place.

Next day, we were set to leave for Hamilton pool which was an hour drive from where we were staying. It’s a swimming hole which was declared preserve by Travis County. It’s definitely a must see in Austin. It’s about 0.2miles of a hike to get to the pool area. Depending on the conditions of the pool you may or may not get to swim. However, its a quaint and beautiful place to check out if you are in Austin.

Our next destination was Blue hole Wimberley. We went here during winter and so most of the swimming places were shut. However, I would definitely recommend this place in summer for a nice dip into the water. Wimberely is a small town that you cross while driving to Blue hole. This town has everything good food, shopping, bed and breakfast!

Barton Spring creek, another open water area where you can swim, kayak, read your book by the creek or just listen to music. You see a lot of people getting their instruments and playing music here. It’s usually crowded during summer but a really cool and chill place to visit.
